Next Steps
Baptism
At First Baptist Chipley, we believe that baptism is not a requirement for salvation, but rather the initial step of faith for believers. It’s crucial to understand that the waters of baptism do not save; rather, it symbolizes the transformative work that Jesus has done in one’s heart.
Baptism serves as a powerful illustration of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) and signifies the new life that comes with following Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). It doesn’t create belief but rather showcases an existing faith in Jesus. Just as a wedding ring signifies a relationship, baptism symbolizes our connection with Christ.
Following the example set by Jesus, who was baptized (Mark 1:9) and commanded us to do the same (Matthew 28:19-20), at First Baptist Chipley, we practice baptism by immersion. This method aligns with the scriptural example and the meaning of the word “baptize,” which implies immersion in water.
If you’re interested in being baptized, please complete this form, indicating your preferred date. We’ll reach out to you shortly with further instructions.
Membership
As you find ways to get more involved in FBC, don’t miss one of the important commitments you can make with your church family: becoming a member!
Once you see all that God wants to do in and through you here, you can’t help but want to get off the sidelines and be a part of this family. Becoming a member means you’re committing to being an active part of the work God is doing here, and giving us the opportunity to commit to care for you. Being a church member is one of the best ways you can put your gifts to work and make a difference here and in our community.
Requirements for Membership
- You have entered into a saving relationship with Jesus (the most important thing!).
- You have been biblically baptized by immersion.
- You have read and affirmed our Statement of Faith.
- You have had a conversation with a member of our ministry staff (we want to hear your story!).
- You are ready to complete Discover FBC classes.
Ready to Become a Member?
If you’ve met the first three requirements for membership and are ready to schedule a conversation with our staff, simply send us an email. We can’t wait to hear your story and commit to caring for you as your official church family.
Find a Connect Group
We believe the key to a large church is small groups. At FBC, we call them Connect Groups! Connect Groups allow you to be part of a biblical community, help you grow spiritually with others, and offer accountability and encouragement. If you’re not part of a Connect Group, we would love for you to visit one!
What is a Connect Group?
Connect Groups are open small groups for all ages and stages of life. Members meet each week to study the Bible together, build relationships, and serve the community together.
When do Connect Groups meet?
Our Connect Groups meet on Sunday mornings at either 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.
How do I find a Connect Group?
You may browse our list of all Connect Groups, contact the church office, or visit the Welcome Desk where our volunteer team will be happy to escort you to an appropriate Connect Group.
How do I join a Connect Group?
You may visit as many Connect Groups as you wish before joining one. Once you find the right Connect Group for you, please let the Connect Group leader know you will be joining the group. You can join a Connect Group at any time.
Discipleship Groups (D-Groups)
D-Groups meet each week for 12–18 months to engage Scripture, pray with and for each other, hold each other accountable, and encourage one another for accelerated spiritual growth.
We strive for a culture of disciples making disciples for the glory of God.
What is a D-Group?
It’s a group of believers who gather each week to discuss their scripture reading, memorize scripture, and encourage one another as they grow in their relationship with Jesus. A D-Group is, by design, closed to a handful of people. A person joins the group by invitation only. The recommended size is 3–5 people (including the leader) and is gender specific. The group is at least a 12-month commitment.
When and where does a D-Group meet?
The meeting time and place of D-Groups is entirely up to each individual group. Many D-Groups meet on our church campus on Sunday night, while many others meet in homes and coffee shops. Likewise, D-Groups may meet any day of the week at the discretion of the leader and group. Typically, a D-Group will meet once a week for 60–90 minutes.
How do I find a D-Group?
If you would like to be in a D-Group, the best first step on the pathway is to join a Connect Group. If you are currently in a Connect Group and desire to be in a D-Group, talk to your Connect Group leader. Connect Groups are the “fishing ponds” for D-Groups. As people form friendships and bonds in Connect Groups, handfuls of them will decide to take the next step and begin a discipleship journey together as part of a D-Group. If you do not have a Connect Group or still need help, please contact Dave Hingson.
Reading Plan
Each D-Group uses the F-260 Reading Plan. The F-260 is a 260-day reading plan that highlights the foundational passages of Scripture that every disciple should know. The plan is designed to be a manageable plan for believers.
Serve
Everyone has unique gifts to help build the body of Christ. Whether you’re a people person, sing or play an instrument, or just love to pour a cup of coffee with a smile on your face, there’s a place for you to serve at FBC!
