Is Jesus truly our first love? The church at Ephesus in Revelation 2 appeared to be doing everything right – working hard, maintaining high standards, and guarding sound doctrine. Yet Jesus had one significant concern: they had left their first love. We can be deeply involved in God’s work while still not pleasing Him fully if our service stems from love for religion, ministry, or morality rather than love for Jesus Himself. The path to renewal involves remembering our former devotion, repenting of our misplaced affections, and returning to actions motivated by genuine love for Christ. When Jesus isn’t our first love, something else will inevitably take His place, leading to spiritual decline.
